Enter the following settings:
By default, you can add the same componentsRaw materials used to manufacture finished goods. to a BOMA stock assembly and process costing system, which provides facilities to specify the structure of finished items in terms of sub-assemblies and components. several times. Select this check box to display a warning when you do this.
By default, this check box is clear. Only stock items which are marked as Built or Bought, under BOM details on the Details tab of the stock item record, are available when you create BOMs.
Select this check box to show component stock items in the Stock Item drop-down list when you create a BOM. It also shows stock items that are marked as Built or Built/Bought in the Stock Control record.
You must select this check box if you want to create a BOM for a component stock item.
Note: Selecting the check box will mean you have a list of all components as well as items marked as Built or Bought on the stock item record, to select from when creating a BOM.
Select this option to calculate the weight of the built item and then save the details to the stock record when you save the active BOM. Weight is calculated for the BOM in the following way:
Note: All weights must be recorded in kilograms. Using kilograms to record the unit weight of the stock item is in accordance with HM Revenue & Custom rules for Intrastat submissions, when dealing with countries in the EC.
If the BOM is a subassembly, weight is not calculated for higher level BOMs. To ensure that the weight of higher level BOMs is calculated, use the Update Bills of Materials Weights option.
You can also change the weight on a component stock item record. If you do so, run Update Weights to include the change in BOMs. The change is not included in the BOM automatically.
We recommend that you use Calculate and write weight back to Stock Control when creating BOMs, and for assembly type manufacturing rather than process manufacturing. Selecting this option only applies to BOM components. It does not apply to operations that may increase or decrease the weight of the finished item.
When using version control, weights are only recalculated or updated when amending or saving a BOM with an Active status, or when making a BOM with a status of New or Obsolete, active.
You must actually make a change to the BOM Simply clicking Amend or Amend (Elevated Privileges), followed by Save, will not recalculate or update the weight on the BOM stock item record.
Select this if you want to use version control.
When you select this check box, Keep BOM change history is automatically selected.
Note: You cannot select or clear this box if there are BOMs in the system with outstanding allocations.
Using version control means you can have multiple revisions of a BOMA stock assembly and process costing system, which provides facilities to specify the structure of finished items in terms of sub-assemblies and components.. However, only one version can be in active use at any one time. BOM details cannot be changed by more than one person at one time. In addition, if a BOM is active (in use in the system), it cannot be changed unless you select Allow Active BOMs to be amended or you are using the Amend (Elevated Privileges) feature and this has been authorised for a role in System Administration.
Note: You can only clear the check box when it has been in use if each built item has one or zero active BOMs. BOMs with new, obsolete and retired statuses are hidden. Only active BOMs can be used in future. However, we recommend that you do not clear the check box if you have ever used version control in your Manufacturing system.
You can also control the use of a BOM by placing a BOM on hold. This prevents the BOM being used elsewhere, for example in works orders. The BOM can be placed on hold in the BOM record, or by using Change Status on the BOM records menu or on the Bill of Materials List toolbar.
Enter the number by which to increment version numbers. The system adds the number increment to the highest version number found for the finished item.
For example, entering 0.01 will produce version numbers incremented by 0.01. If the highest version number is 3.50 the increment will give version number 3.51.
All BOM change history is stored. Select this option to display a log of all change history for the BOM on the BOM record History tab. The History tab is only visible if you select this setting.
Note: If you select Use version control when creating or editing BOMs, Keep BOM change history is automatically selected.
You may want to correct spelling mistakes in active BOMs without creating a new version number for the BOM. This option allows you to make the necessary changes.
Important Note:
Use this option with caution! Selecting this option allows a complete override of version control even whilst version control is switched on. This means that whilst version control is in use, any user can change any active BOM without checking the BOM out and without incrementing the version number.
If you want to allow this, select Allow Active BOMs to be amended.
If you do not want to allow this, leave the check box clear.
To protect your version control system, we recommend that you leave this check box clear.
As an alternative, set up a role for active BOM amendment in System Administration and assign that role to the specific users whom you want to allow to amend active BOMs.
For users with that role, authorise the Amend (Elevated Privileges) feature in the Bill of Materials module in System Administration.
Note: Do not authorise the feature for any other role.
Only those users will be able to amend active BOMs without checking outthe BOMs first and creating a new version number for them. Your version control system will remain protected.

Use this option to select the sub-assemblies you want to use, by default, when creating a new BOM version or amending an existing BOM.

If the check box is selected, you can select new versions of sub-assemblies, in addition to active versions of sub-assemblies, in the new BOM version. The default version is the last new or active BOM version created. This is useful if you want to use the module for design. When you create BOMs, you can use new sub-assemblies which can be exploded, trial kitted, or tested for maximum build. You cannot allocate or build these BOMs until they become active. |
This setting specifies the default for the BOM components but you can override the default on individual components. It is what you select on the component line that determines what options can be used with the BOM. For more information, see Use specific version when entering BOM component details.
Enter the build quantity to be used as the default amount when building BOMs.
Note: This value may be modified on the BOM in line with the units of measure used.
Enter the cost quantity to be used as the default cost amount on BOM records.
Note: This value may be modified on the BOM in line with the units of measure used.
Enter the separator to be used by reports to indicate hierarchy (or indentation).
By default, a space is set as the Hierarchy Separator. You can enter up to 10 characters.
When you produce a report, the value you enter is multiplied by the level of indentation. For example, if you enter a single full stop as the separator, indentation to four levels would look like:
