You can add a component, sub-assembly or phantomA BOM that is not used as as a stock component or in raising works orders. A phantom BOM is created and structured to contain groups of components, like a standard BOM. It is used in printed reports on stock structures. It can be used to collapse the sub-assemblies to reduce work in progress (WIP) and lead-time. It operates as a standard sub-assembly. However, the product code for the finished item does not appear on a higher level works order. Within Manufacturing, the components and operations of phantoms (and nested phantoms) are added to the top-level works order. These components and operations are given a sequence number of zero. In some manufacturing systems, phantom BOMs are employed instead of effectivity dates, to use up old stock before introducing replacement parts. If so, the old item is created as a phantom with the new item, the child of the old. Old stock is used up before new stock is ordered. When a phantom has zero stock, it is deleted and the new item is made part of the original BOM. Phantom BOMs are also known as non-returnable assemblies and blow-throughs. BOM to a BOMA stock assembly and process costing system, which provides facilities to specify the structure of finished items in terms of sub-assemblies and components. or BOMs.
You can also choose to add components to BOMs that are on hold.
If you are using version control, you cannot add components to a BOM if:
You also cannot add:
After adding components you can choose to recost the BOMs.
Note: The BOMs only include the price of added components when they are recosted.
Note: If you have selected Allow Active BOMs to be amended in BOM Settings General tab, and a component is being added to an active BOM, a new BOM is not created. The active BOM will be updated with the replaced component.
Open: Bill of Materials > Utilities > Maintenance > Add Component.
In the Stock Items to Add area, select the Stock Code for each item you want to add.
The Description appears automatically. You can change this, if required.
You can add as many items as you want.
They are added in the sequence listed here.
You can move items up and down the list, using the arrow keys.
Enter the quantity of the component, or raw materialsThe base materials from which sub-assemblies, components and finished goods are made., required to manufacture the finished item.
If the quantity does not match the unit of measureThe quantity in which a stock item is measured for purchase, sale or storage., the quantity is automatically adjusted to the nearest appropriate value.
The Unit of Measure displayed is the stocked in unit, taken from the stock record, but you can change it here.
If version control is in use, and there is more than one version of a sub-assembly, and you want to select a specific version, select Specific Version.
Note: If you do not select a version, the component will be taken from the active version of BOM.
Click OK to display the Enter Bill of Materials window.
Select the BOMs you want to add components to on the Bill of Materials tab.
Note: You can add a component to a BOM, even if the component is already contained on the BOM. If you selected Warn when adding duplicate components on the BOM Settings General tab, a warning message will appear. You can continue to add duplicate components.
View the exclusions or warnings on the Exclusions/Warnings tab.
Note: Components will not be added to BOMs that are listed as exclusions.
A message appears asking whether you want to recost BOMs.
Note: If you are using version control, the message only appears if Allow Active BOMs to be amended is selected in the BOM Settings General tab.
