The Bill of Materials module has a version control option, Use version control when creating or editing BOMs, within the General tab of the BOM Settings. If you select this option, you can have multiple versions of a BOM. BOM details cannot be changed by more than one person at a time and only one version can be in active use at any one time.
If you choose to use version control, you can also select to Allow Active BOMs to be amended within the General tab of the BOM Settings. However, this means that any user can amend active BOMs. This means that a user can completely override the version control, even while it is switched on.
We recommend that you only allow selected users to amend active BOMs.
Authorise these roles with the relevant features.
These features are automatically installed with the program:
Feature |
What happens |
---|---|
Amend Bill of Material |
Each time a BOM is created, it is given a Bom Version number 0.01. Any amendment of an Active BOM will create a New version of the BOM with a new version number. For example, when changes are made to version 0.01, version 0.02 is created. |
Amend Bill of Material (Elevated Privileges) |
Any amendment of an Active BOM will update the Active version directly. The version number remains the same. Note: Amendment of the other BOM statuses is the same with or without elevated privileges. |
For example, select the Amend Bill of Material feature for the BOM STD role, and the Amend Bill of Material (Elevated Privileges) feature for the BOM ELEVATED role.
Only those users with the BOM ELEVATED role are able to amend Active BOMs.
If you do not want to allow active BOMs to be amended directly by any user, ensure that you do not select the Amend Bill of Material (Elevated Privileges) feature for any role.
If you want users to be able to amend BOMs using both methods, ensure that you select both Amend Bill of Material and Amend Bill of Material (Elevated Privileges) features for the role.
