How do I know if there is a change to the current legislation?Open this section

If you're a Sage Covercustomer, we notify you of the changes before they come into effect. We also tell you how to apply the changes in your software.

Alternatively, HMRC may also contact you with details of the changes.

Can I set up my software to automatically update my legislation details?Open this section

Yes. Company > Legislation > select the Check for online legislation updates check box.

Do I need an Internet connection to get online legislation updates?Open this section

Yes. To perform an online legislation update, your computer must be connected to the Internet so you can access the Sage website. If a connection can't be made, an error message appears.


PAYE and national insurance (NI)

Can I manually add a new set of tax bands and rates?Open this section

Yes.

  1. Company > Legislation > Add Date.
  2. Enter the date, within the current tax year, that the new tax bands and rates start > OK. Use the table to enter the new bands and rates.

    The remainder of the information in the income tax bandwidths and rates section can also be changed. You will be informed by Sage or HMRC if changes are needed to this information.

  3. To save your changes > OK.
Can I manually add a new set of NI bands and rates?Open this section

Yes.

  1. Company > Legislation > NI Bands & Rates > Add Date.
  2. Enter the date you want the new NI bands and rates to start > OK.

    Note: The date must be within the current tax year.

  3. In the NI Rates section > select the appropriate NI Category from the drop-down list >make the changes needed to the rates.
  4. To save your changes > OK.

What are KIT Days?Open this section

Keep in Touch (KIT) days give your employee the opportunity to do some limited work, under the terms of their contract of employment, without losing statutory pay for the work done. They're applicable for SMP and ASPP. KIT days only cover work done for the employer who is currently making the statutory payment.


Attachment of earnings

Can I change the AEO legislation details in my software?Open this section

Yes, but only if you have been told to do so by Sage or HMRC.

If you're a Sage Covercustomer, we notify you of the changes before they come into effect. We will also tell you how to apply the changes in your software.

Can I manually add a new set of AEO rates?Open this section

For attachments that calculate the deduction percentages each pay period, such as Community Charge or Council Tax, you can add a new set of rates.

  1. Company > Legislation > AEO Rates.
  2. From the Attachment Type drop-down list > select the attachment you want > Add Rate.
  3. Enter the date you want the new AEO rates start > OK.

    Note: The date must be within the current tax year.

  4. Use the tables to enter the new weekly and monthly earnings values and deduction rates.
  5. To save your changes > OK.
What is the administration fee?Open this section

Employers can deduct an administration fee from their employees to cover the cost of administering an AEO. The current administration rate of £1 is taken from your employee's net pay each time the attachment is deducted. Your software can be set up to automatically deduct the administration fee. Find out more.

You shouldn't change the administration fee unless instructed to do so by Her Majesty's Courts Service (HMCS).
