Sage 50 Accounts desktop

The Sage Accounts desktop is the main window within the software. It's the starting point from which you can access the features you'll need to manage your accounts, so it's really important to be familiar with how it works.

Tip: Before exploring your software desktop, ensure you have completed the Customise your company tasks. If you haven't yet done this, select Help > Customise your company and follow the instructions provided.

Title Bar

The title barOpen this section shows the name of the Sage software you are using and the name of the company you have open.

If more than one window is open, the title bar for the active window, the one in which you are working, has a different colour - normally darker, to the title bars of the other windows.

Menu Bar

The menu barOpen this section contains several menus, each with its own set of options.

To open a menu, click on the menu name or press ALT + LETTER at the same time, where LETTER is the underlined letter in the menu name.

For example, to open the Tools menu, press ALT + T. This opens the drop-down list,

Control Menu

The Control menu box is in the upper-right corner of each window. They look like this:

The left button minimises the window, the middle button expands the window so that it fills the screen and the X button on the right closes the window.

Status Bar

If you are using a Single User version of the software the status bar shows the software name, the software date and the financial year start date.

If you are using the network version the status bar displays the station name, the software date and the financial year start date.

Navigation Bar

The navigation bar, which appears on the left hand side of the desktop, provides quick and easy access to the main areas of your software.

At the bottom, you can use the navigation stack to access the main areas in the software referred to as modules.

Above this stack are the Tasks and Links panes. They provide easy access to the activities and information in each area.

Work Area

The main section of the software window, where information appears and you enter data. You can choose between the following displays:

  • Ledger - showing a list of items appropriate to the selected module.

    Throughout this help system, the step-by-step procedures assume that you have a ledger window displayed.

  • Process map - showing the workflow associated with the selected module. Read more.
  • Dashboards - showing key information for the selected module. Find out more.
  • Diary - showing due dates, reminders and scheduled tasks, as well as general notes.

To switch between views click Change View, shown in the top right-hand corner of the work area.
