SData Settings

Sage 50 Accounts conforms to the Sage Data Specification developed by Sage Technologies Limited, a subsidiary of The Sage Group plc.

Welcome

SData Services is all about integrating your Sage software, passing data from one to another so that your business information is synchronized and up-to-date.

SData Services provides the potential to turn your Sage business applications into web servers, sharing business information across your various Sage applications, thus providing new business opportunities.

To get SData Services up and running, you need to have some knowledge of networks and firewalls. If you are unsure, we recommend you contact your network administrator or the person who set up your network.

Getting started

When your software opens, the SData Service is turned on, by default.

Although the SData Service is on at start-up, in order to protect your business information, access to the data feeds is initially unavailable. These feeds have to be selected separately in the SData Settings tab from within Tools > Internet Options.

The SData Settings tab lists all detected Sage applications that have SData installed.

  1. To view data across the applications, each appropriate application has to be started. To do this, select the On check box.
  2. To view the SData Feeds details for a particular application, click Details.

The SData Details window appears, with various tabs that summarise those SData feeds that are available to your selected application, such as GCRM - Global Contact Relationship Management or HR.

For each tab that appears, available company datasets are listed, along with their associated Address.

To email the available company dataset details including the Address, to a colleague using another Sage application with the SData functionality, click Email. Alternatively, to copy and paste the Address, click Copy to Clipboard.

  3. To review the port configuration for your SData connection, click Advanced.

The SData Advanced Settings window appears.

In the SData Advanced Settings window, you choose the port settings for your data feeds that is most suitable for the environment, within which you are operating.

    Port Number

When your application starts, SData inspects your PC and determines the most appropriate Port Number for communication. It is recommended that you leave this setting unchanged.

In most instances the Port Number selected is 5493.

    SData Service Status

The SData Service Status is shown. It has two conditions:

  4. To restart the Service at any time, click Restart.

Note: Please note that if you change these settings, other integrated applications already using the SData feature may stop working. Always refer to your System Administrator before making any changes to these settings.

    Windows Firewall

Note: Once SData has established a connection to Windows Firewall, the Windows Firewall button becomes inactive.

If SData does not establish a connection to Windows Firewall, click Windows Firewall.

If the Microsoft® Windows Firewall or other installed firewall has not granted connection permission to the SData Service, a message appears, prompting you to confirm that the port is to be added to the Firewall exceptions, and granted connection permission.

  5. Finally, to save your settings and close the Internet Options window, click OK.

If you decide not to complete your SData settings, click Cancel. A warning message advises that you have not saved your settings.

Security

Always remember that when using SData, your business information is available to other people, possibly in other locations.
