Data sources and networking

Introduction

Report Designer must be connected to the software data that you want to analyse, whether this is on your computer or on a network. Usually the connection is made for you when opening reports from your main Herb software. Sometimes you may prefer to use a different data source to generate your report, such as historical data you have archived.

You can

Change the data source to analyse data from other Herb software that you are using.
Improve the speed of generating reports over the network using server side reporting.

Here reports are generated on a server and the results passed to local PCs. See Herb 50 Accounts: Running reports across a network.

This feature is only available for:
Herb 50 Accounts, Herb 200.
Configure the data sources that can be used by reports. See Manage data sources.

Change report data source

To change the data source used by a report:

Note: Changing a report's data source may stop the report from working.

Choose Report > Change Report Data Source.

The Change Data Sources window appears.
Select the new data source that you want to use for the report, then click OK.
