Note: The hierarchy in Sage 200 Wholesale and Retail is intended for the creation and management of physical stock items only. It cannot contain items of the types, Miscellaneous or Service/Labour. If you need to create and use Miscellaneous or Service/Labour stock item types, do this in the Stock Control module.
Your stock items are set up in a similar way to your company hierarchy.
Use the Wholesale and Retail module to set up the relationship between the different types of stock item that you sell. By default the hierarchy is set up as follows:
You can change the number of levels and the names of these levels from the Merchandise Hierarchy Setup option. You can create up to nine levels in your merchandise hierarchy, but the last level must be defined as a Product.
See Set up Sage 200 Wholesale and Retail to tailor this structure to match the way that your business operates.
The hierarchy allows you to set up a stock item in a stock item type. The examples used throughout this help refer to a clothes retailer. In this example, the retailer can organise the stock in terms of men's and women's clothing, type of clothing (e.g. shirts, trousers, dresses), size, colour and even by season.
By setting up your stock items in this way, you gain more information in addition to the functionality provided in your Sage 200 Stock Control module. If you were using the standard version of Sage 200, you would have to set up a separate stock item for each different variation of stock product.
For example, if you sell T-shirts in three different colours and three different sizes, you must set up nine different individual records in the Stock Control module. The system sets up the different variations automatically when you use the Wholesale and Retail module.
