The Nominal Ledger window

You can use the Nominal Ledger window to customise Sage Accounts to make management reports and transactions more relevant to your company, so even though the software is designed to suit a wide audience, you can tailor it specifically for your business needs. It's also a great place to see information about the transactions affecting specific nominal codes.

To access the Nominal Ledger window, browse to Company > Nominal Ledger.

Within the Nominal Ledger window you can access the Chart of Accounts, amend nominal codes and post journals.


Options within the Nominal Ledger window

New Nominal

Use to create a new nominal record using the New Nominal wizard.

Nominal Record

Opens a blank nominal record, where you can:

  • Create a nominal account record.
  • Open an existing nominal account record to view or edit. To do this, from the N/C drop-down list > choose the required nominal record.

Activity

You can use this to view the transaction history on a nominal record.

Journal Entry

Move balances between nominal records. Find out more

Journal Reversal

You can use this to correct journals that have been made in error. Find out more

Prepayments

Set up transactions that will adjust your accounts for payments or invoices that you have paid in advance. Find out more

Accruals

Set up transactions that will adjust your accounts for any payments or invoices which you pay in arrears.Find out more

Chart of Accounts - menu option

Opens the Chart of Accounts window.

Reports

Opens the report browser for the nominal ledger.

Chart of Accounts - drop-down list

The Chart of Accounts structure currently applied to the Nominal Ledger window.

Display

The time period you want to view your nominal activity over.

Cumulative/Month only

This option is only active if you select any of the months 1 to 12 in the Display box.

  • Cumulative - The total for the nominal account up to the selected month.
  • Month only - Displays the balance of transactions for the selected month.

Variance

Compare the displayed financial activities to:

  • Your previous financial year.
  • Budgets set on your nominal accounts.

Layout

Controls how your nominal accounts appear.

  • Analyser - The nominal account activity in the structure of a financial statement.
  • List - A simple list without any grouping or filters applied. The debit and credit columns display cumulative totals for the current financial year, including any brought forward values.
  • Graph - A pie chart. To view more information in the chart, either hover your cursor over areas on the chart or double-click a section.
