How Sage Accounts applies discounts
There are several types of discounts you can use, giving you great flexibility for making your prices competitive. Most discounts can
be set up so that they are automatically applied to an invoice to speed
up invoice entry. As you create the invoice the awarded discount can be
amended as required.

can also use discounts on orders, quotations and
pro-formas.
The discount value may differ depending on how that type
of discount is calculated. The different types of discount available are described below.
- Customers > select the customer you require > Customer Record > Defaults.

Disc.% box > enter
the discount rate you want to apply > Save.
A discount of this percentage rate now applies
to all invoices and orders you generate for this customer, and is added to any other discounts applied.
Note: You
can also see this discount on the item line of the invoice or order. To do this,
select an item line on the invoice or order and press F3, the Edit Item Line window
appears showing the discount.
- Customers > select the customer you require > Customer Record > Defaults tab.
- Additional Discount > choose Invoice Value > Save.
Whenever you raise an invoice or order for
this customer, the appropriate discount rate
is applied to the total net value. The rate of discount applied is set up in Settings > Customer Defaults > Discounts.
- Customers > select the customer you require > Customer Record > Credit Control tab.
- Settlement Due Days box, enter the number of days within which payment should
be made to qualify for an early settlement discount.

In
the Sett. Discount
> enter the percentage of discount that the customer gets for early
settlement > Save.
Settlement discount is always calculated on the full net value of the invoice after all other discounts have been applied.
Note: Settlement discount applies to the VAT value regardless of whether the customer meets the required date for payment.
- Customers > select the customer you require > Customer Record > Defaults tab.

Additional Discount > choose the quantity
table
which you require for this customer > Save.
Tip: You can apply quantity discount or invoice value
discount, but not both.
Quantity discount is determined through each product’s discount rate tables. Five tables are given per product. This means that you can give five different quantity discount rates to the different types of customer.
